We took the cushions out of the storage container today, it made the caravan smell much better and also made us feel better too!
Early Saturday morning the concrete arrived, luckily Nick and a team of muscle guys had also turned up! By the end of the day all foundations had gone done and we went for a walk with Clare and Jacky in Cardinham woods.
So returned home to Cardinham on the 21st and set too making the shuttering. Polly and Mike arrived on the 24th with the 3 boys, great to see them all and several people have said how lovely it was to have children playing on the chapel lawn again! John, Clare and Jacky came down this week and stayed in Deviock Barns. It was great to see them all and fabulous that Jacky and John got to see the chapel for the first time. Working hard we finish just in time, tomorrow Friday 26th building control arrive, if all goes well concrete is to be poured at 7.00am on Saturday!
So we have given up on trying to get the concrete down, various reasons but just not enough time to be ready in time. Booked a hotel and ready to go, looking forward to seeing everyone again.
As we don't yet have a washing machine plumbed in we are making use of Liskeard's finest launderette. After filling a machine at 8am, first customers, we walked through town to find a suitable resting place, not wishing to watch the smalls rotating in frothy water!
Bean in Liskeard's is to be recommended and does great coffee and toast! A great day! Today Western Power arrived, take note Openreach! They went up the pole, sorted the old cable and replaced it with a new underground one that goes to a new place inside. They were smiley, quick and helpful, thanks guys. We would have covered over their new cable afterwards if it wasn't that Openreach, or BT, have not given us their ducting to put in, something Western Power did ages ago! So for now we still have a big trench open to all and everyone, hurry up and get me fibre! We decided a tidy up would help an so a bonfire was required. Jan used ninja girl guide magic to get it going! We also decided to tidy up a bottle of red left over from the BBQ, many thanks to whoever gave us that! Amazing way to end a great day.
We have a shining new petrol driven self propelled lawn mower, as modelled by Jan. After 3 hours of putting together and filing with oil and petrol it was ready to go. Jan did a great job of mowing in less time than it took to build!
I managed to build the first part of the shuttering and push a service duct through for the electric cable being put in on Monday Now the floor has been levelled and the stone wall foundations lie exposed, we are trying to get the shuttering up for the new floor foundations. I have watched several YouTube videos and am of course an expert! One to share if you every need to know how to do it? We are hoping to pour them on Wednesday before we travel back to Portsmouth for very important social gatherings and seeing friends and family.
Things in the caravan are looking up. We have all necessary services, some fantastic new home cards, a kitchen and it is starting to take shape as a great little home, a bit tired in places, but like it's owners full of possibilities!
