When the Hempcrete is sprayed the first layer can bounce off the wall and that makes getting a good fix against the wall tricky. With this in mind, Graham, the Hempman, has suggested adding a layer of timber around the base of the wall to stop that happening. I have started and am confident that when he arrives next week we will have completed the Chapel base so he can start. It is also useful to place the water pipes in too.

So the Hempcrete is not coming this week, but that is ok as we do still have things to do and it will mean we are going to be more prepared. Dave has let us know that the delay on the windows is as a result of the glass not being ready from the glass manufacturers. At least it will give them time to get it to him so he can put the windows in.
Treeve has added an electric plug for the compressor pump and has completed first fix electrics where he can. Tony will be back in a few days to do some studwork, Treeve will return to finish first fix then. In between I will add plumbing water pipes. Sadly no windows yet.
With the first fix electrics having been started it is also time to add first fix plumbing. That is down to us though as we are happy to do that without help. We are using HEP2O plastic pipe instead of copper. These are what I used when we did the extension at Hayling. It worked well so seems sense to use it again. It will take several days to get finished and some of it cant be done until stud walls have been built, so expect several blogs entries on pipes... nice colours though don't you think?
Treeve has been back, with Harry, to add the cables for the ring main circuits. These are going under the edge insulation so that they sit on the cold floor to reduce heat. these need to be in place before the Hempcrete man sprays the walls.
The floor inside is now hardened off and we are sorting out the edges again! this time they need the insulation to be secured in place and any gaps behind it filled in so that no voids which can hold air exist. This air would condense upon the cold side of the plastic and allow the water to pass into the walls causing damp patches. If the air has no space to fill this will not occur so easily. Stuart and Jo have returned to help out and share the delights of Cornwall. we went to Jamies 15 and looked out over Watergate bay to watch jousting!
So its back to building again and Jan has been finishing off the down pipes on the filed side of the building. we are now guttered and piped on that side so all rain will be washing away down the drains. We have had a washing machine malfunction but the wonderful people at John Lewis have sorted us out free of charge, not bad for an 8yr old machine! Dave Northey has sent us some photos of the Kitchen windows in a basic pre-made state, he has said they will be in by the end of the month in time for the Hempcrete man to spray around them.
tThe last week we have been in Centre Parcs Bedford celebrating Jans birthday..21 again...Joe and Lisa and Sarah all came for a couple of days and so did Mary, Jacky, Martin and MGC. it was lovely to see everyone and have a few days away following all the worry of getting ready for the liquid screed. When we got back the radishes had had a growth spurt and our first salad from our own veggie patch was wonderful and makes you realise that life after the building work will be much less worrisome and more like being retired...we hope.
As we are unable to walk inside the chapel until its dried, we set about adding the down pipes to the guttering Jan put up. Many thanks to you both.
