After the mega Christmas and New year Scotland Bedford Portsmouth road trip we are back here at the chapel. New year means new ideas and an old school drinks cabinet! Well why not? It was a cheap Facebook market place deal, but the glass shelves would eventually cost £135!
The new years first month sent us a glorious huge moon.

December is always a good month leading up to the festive event. We gave the children advent candles to light in their own homes so wee can be together even when far apart. Gareth was pointing Lidls new carpark wall back in July with lime mortar. I stopped the car quick to ask if he did houses too? several months later he is here to begin to point the walls. He is chasing out the cement put in by builders who didn't understand. why lime is needed to allow a breathability to these lovely thick walls. Cornish Lime, based in Bodmin, are suppling the lime he used to get the magnificent results you can see below. . Choosing paint colours is always tricky. Earthborn clay paints have a limited colour range which makes the job a little easier. The clay based paint is very breathable allowing the walls to again work as they did back in the day when the chapel was built. Obviously the hempcrete ,again breathable, will make the walls much more thermally efficient! Jan at her tallest giving scale to the big doors.
The ever wonderful Pam has arrived to stay always welcome especially with Gin! More lovely visitors arrive. I start to put back in the pew and screen. the timber is now solid and dry having had a light sanding its ready to be varnished again. More visitors arrive and test its strength, luckily it held up! The end of the month sees some chilly weather and a light dusting of snow.
The village show and we decide to enter!
After a visit from Building Control, we had a few jobs to do....... Anti scald valves.......tick The month ended on a high...
we got building control certification and.....!!!!!!!! The first week we were awoken to the Oak tree across the road falling down. The tree was made safe and the garden grew! Good friends and family arrived. Sarah and Jan worked out the tile pattern. and I finished the entrance porch .... and August was gone!
The outside is really starting to come together and today Treeve and Harry added lights to the steps. They are on a daylight senor so will come on at dusk and off at sunrise.
So after the noise and smoke of last night today is all calm and ordered. Maybe a bit like it felt after that great war had past and the 1930s begun? A new beginning life taking a more relaxed feel? |
