Duncan got down to work on the kitchen ceiling and will continue to add lime to the stable walls and then the kitchen over the next two weeks. there are many small finishing jobs to be done as they progress which will keep us busy but it is taking shape well.

He did it! 100km in less than 24hrs! wow!
I'm in awe, it was brave, it was challenging but it was also amazing and we thank you Baz for letting us be part of it. The plasterers have arrived Duncan and Tom from Oakridge Natural Finishes. They made a great start and the ceiling in the stable was done in one day. We have discussed the plastering with Duncan and he is confident he can get the whole of the kitchen done for us if we can get it ready for him. Its a tough ask as we need to add insulation, cross batten it, add plasterboard...Pink for greater fire protection and sort out cables and sockets in less than 5 days. With such a short time it was late nights or is that early mornings Wednesday was 2 a.m. even jan was up until one and she is not a night person. anyway we did it!! Well done team.
The stump in the front garden left after Archie cut down the huge tree that had stood for many years had been growing ivy and all sorts. We wanted it removed so we can use the timber maybe for a table in the garden or something for inside, whats is left will make fuel for the wood burner.
The intrepid explorer returned and using great DIY skills is now a grand master in plaster boarding, just as well as we have a lot to do! It has to be ready as the plasters arrive on Monday to plaster the stable and the kitchen back wall so we can get the new consumer unit up on the wall and some of the circuits up and running so we can move into the stable asap. Target was end of August it will be more likely October if all goes to plan.
Jan has made some hot mustard pickle and she is enjoying some of the good life up cycling another chair. Daemon and Barry are down again to help with insulation and plaster boarding. Even Peanut helped out!
We are trying to push forward the stable so that we can be in it before winter hits. Much of the insulation is already in the walls and next will see us topping up the cellotex in the roof with foil based insulation to meet building regs.
Jan has been looking at auctions and second hand places for furniture that we can up cycle. She has found a great looking chair and has spent this week sanding it down and painting it. I have to say she has made a fantastic job of it. |
