Carn completed his wall yesterday and now I have joined mine to his. Next is moving soil and drains so over to Nick.... Tony was back yesterday too and has done a great job on the steps. They will finish it off on Monday so more photos to follow!
So today the side steps were started... the dynamic duo of Tony and Rich laid many blocks to form the core which will be covered with slate and stone (granite). We will have two steps outside the left hand pair of doors and three outside the right hand side doors. The difference is because the garden slopes a fair bit!
We have been joined by another wall builder, Carn. He is Treeve's brother and is looking to take his current slate work into granite as well. He has made a great start and his work looks fab.
Today Rich and Chris have been facing up the Chapel retaining wall. I did cut a few of the stones myself, it has taken a while to get to this stage but the end result will look fabulous so worth it.
James has returned to put in the new Sunday school door. it took a couple of days to go in but it looks wonderful. The design, using a hardwood called Sapele, is so that we can have the whole door open on hot days or just the stable part on warm days. we hope it will also keep out the odd stray cat!
Lots has happened over the last rew weeks and most of it has been making a mess! With the steps behind us now and some of the walls in place we are close to getting to a stage that maybe called clearing up! Yesterday Nick began to tidy up and its looking good so far. Over the weekend Jan and I chose plants to go in the trough very pretty they are and they should dangle over the wall as they get bigger.
Having worked hard to get ready for the plastering guys we all decided a day off was due. The rain held off just enough for us to wander around the gardens and even tackle the jungle rope bridge too.
James arrived yesterday to begin the process of adding the stair case. its great to have a young person who sticks to time and gets the job done. The landing being built by Charlie, NIck and Tony's brother is a great creation. He has created it using a telehandler to bend the steel to the correct shape. Before that he had cut slices out to precise measurements all of which were then welded together again once bent! Many thanks to you both. The scaffolding has gone in to enable Duncan to plaster the Chapel/living room, it will also help Tony to add the floor to the landing. He has worked so hard to get this completed for us and it looks great with the coloured windows. He has now moved on to our bedroom. |
